LONDON — A man has been detained on allegations of causing severe bodily harm after a stabbing incident left five individuals injured in south London on Thursday morning, according to emergency services.

The Metropolitan Police reported that among the victims were a man in his 50s, two men in their 30s, and two men in their 20s, all of whom were transported to the hospital with stab wounds. Thankfully, their conditions were noted to be not life-threatening. The incident unfolded in an industrial area in Croydon, close to an Asda supermarket.

Authorities stated that a 30-year-old man was arrested in proximity to the scene on charges of grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon. Similar to the victims, this man was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, who oversees local policing in the area, mentioned, “Based on initial investigations, we believe all parties involved were acquainted with one another. Therefore, we do not consider there to be an ongoing threat to the general public.”

The London Ambulance Service confirmed that one of the injured individuals was transported to a major trauma center in the city.

The ambulance service detailed, “We dispatched several units to the location, including ambulance teams, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, an incident response officer, members of our Tactical Response Unit, and London’s Air Ambulance.”

This incident arrives on the same day that a teenager was set to be sentenced for killing three girls during a Taylor Swift-themed summer dance class in Southport, in northwestern England.
