TORONTO – In an impressive comeback, the Toronto Raptors rallied from a significant 21-point deficit to secure a 109-93 victory over the struggling Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. Scottie Barnes contributed a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while RJ Barrett added another 19 points to the winning effort.
The Raptors managed to halt a four-game losing streak against the Magic, marking their first win of the season when trailing at halftime, having previously been winless in such scenarios with a record of 0-23. Gradey Dick also played a key role, scoring 17 points and dominating the third quarter with 10 points, including two significant dunks that helped propel the Raptors to a commanding 40-20 scoring run in the period. This shift allowed Toronto to transform a five-point deficit at halftime into a 15-point lead by the end of the third quarter.
For Orlando, Paolo Banchero delivered a strong performance with 26 points and 12 rebounds. However, despite a fast start that saw the Magic take early leads of 10-0 and 32-11 in the opening period, they ultimately succumbed, suffering their fourth consecutive loss. The last occasion on which the Raptors staged a comeback from at least a 21-point deficit was back on January 22, 2014, against Dallas.
The Magic’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 20 points, while Anthony Black contributed 17 points. Wendell Carter Jr. faced early foul trouble and finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds but fouled out during the game. Additionally, Cole Anthony was sidelined due to illness, and Jonathan Isaac logged just over four minutes before departing for the same reason.
In terms of injuries, Orlando’s Jalen Suggs missed his ninth consecutive game due to lower back issues, having last played in early January. The Raptors also had Immanuel Quickley missing his fourth straight game due to a left hip injury, and Ochai Agbaji was unavailable due to a right hand issue.
A significant moment in the game came when Davion Mitchell’s layup put Toronto ahead for the first time at 60-59 with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter, extending their lead to 85-70 by the end of the period. Notably, despite starting strong with five successful 3-point attempts, Orlando struggled significantly afterward, shooting only 4-for-26 from beyond the arc.
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play on Thursday. Orlando will host the Utah Jazz, while the Raptors are set to visit the Atlanta Hawks.
