Sydney has witnessed the remarkable prowess of Australia’s women’s cricket team as they swiftly secured the Women’s Ashes title in just nine days.
With a stellar performance, the Australians achieved their fourth consecutive victory in the multi-format series, defeating England by 57 runs in the opening match of the three T20 fixtures.
Having swept all three one-day internationals prior to this match, Australia has established a commanding 8-0 lead in the series, making it impossible for England to catch up given that only eight points remain available.
This significant lead means that Australia only needs to win or draw in either of the remaining two T20 matches, or the final test match, to officially claim the series.
Australia has held the Ashes since 2015, when they clinched the title during a multi-format series held in England.
In the first T20 held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia posted a formidable score of 198-7, bolstered by Beth Mooney’s impressive innings of 75 runs off 51 balls.
On the other hand, England struggled right from the start, losing both of their opening batsmen within the first seven deliveries and ultimately being bowled out for 141 runs in the 16th over.
