Cesc Fàbregas, the coach of Como, expressed confidence in Alli’s potential, stating, “The club believes in Dele’s ability and is dedicated to aiding him in reclaiming his best performance. His experience and leadership skills will definitely be advantageous for our team.”
Once recognized as one of the most promising talents in English football, Alli was part of the England squad that reached the semifinals in the 2018 World Cup. He previously shone as a pivotal figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s youthful Tottenham Hotspur team that nearly clinched the Premier League title.
However, in recent years, the attacking midfielder has faced significant challenges that have hindered his career. In 2023, he underwent six weeks of rehabilitation in the United States to address mental health issues related to a traumatic childhood, compounded by a dependence on sleeping pills.
Last season, Alli did not make an appearance for Everton before his contract came to an end in June 2024. His most recent playing time occurred during a loan period with the Turkish club Besiktas the year prior.
The club emphasized its excitement about signing him, acknowledging his remarkable talent and outlining their intention to create a nurturing environment for him to gradually acclimate to the team. “While we will not impose immediate performance goals, we trust that he will significantly impact the game and act as a mentor for the club’s emerging young players,” Como announced.
Currently, Como ranks 17th in Italy’s 20-team league, and they are hopeful that bringing in Alli will contribute positively to their season.
