Heady’s 16 Points Propel Central Michigan to 71-66 Victory Over Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. — Central Michigan emerged victorious over Northern Illinois with a final score of 71-66 on Saturday, powered by Jakobi Heady’s impressive performance of 16 points and nine rebounds.
Heady played a crucial role in leading the Chippewas, who now stand at 8-9 overall and 2-3 within the Mid-American Conference. Cayden Vasko also made significant contributions, scoring 15 points and providing five assists. Anthony Pritchard, meanwhile, rounded out the offense with 13 points, and despite a shooting performance of 5 of 14 from the field and 2 of 4 from the free-throw line, he also contributed six rebounds, nine assists, and three steals.
On the flip side, Quaran McPherson stood out for the Huskies, scoring 22 points which was instrumental in keeping his team competitive. Quentin Jones added 12 points and four assists to the Huskies’ effort, while Kailon Nicholls chipped in with 11 points and three steals.
In the first half, Vasko’s nine points helped secure a 35-29 lead for Central Michigan at the break. Although Heady went on to score 10 points in the second half, the Chippewas were outscored by one point in that period but managed to maintain their lead and secure the win.
Both teams are scheduled to take the court again on Tuesday, with Central Michigan set to host Ball State and Northern Illinois traveling to face Western Michigan.
