LOS ANGELES — Lakers center Anthony Davis was sidelined for just the third time this season after being announced as a late scratch from the lineup prior to the game against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.
Davis was officially listed as out just 40 minutes before the game commenced due to an issue with plantar fasciitis affecting his left foot.
Following the Lakers’ narrow 102-101 victory, Coach JJ Redick noted that the decision to keep Davis out was made “out of an abundance of caution.” He expressed optimism regarding Davis’s potential availability for the upcoming game against the LA Clippers on Sunday.
This matchup will mark the Lakers’ first game at the Clippers’ new Intuit Dome arena located in Inglewood, which is situated less than a mile away from the Forum, the Lakers’ home from 1967 to 1999.
When Davis has been unavailable this season, the Lakers have posted a 2-1 record. His absence was previously felt in a game against Memphis on November 6 due to a left heel bruise, and again on January 2 against Minnesota due to a sprained left ankle.
This season, Davis is ranked 11th in the league for scoring, averaging 25.8 points per game, while also securing an impressive average of 11.9 rebounds per game, placing him fifth overall in this category.
In Davis’s absence, Jaxson Hayes stepped in for his third start of the season and contributed six points along with nine rebounds over 33 minutes on the court.
