ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Nelly Junior Joseph made a significant contribution to New Mexico’s success by scoring 16 points, leading the Lobos to an impressive 84-65 victory over Boise State on Friday.
Joseph also recorded nine rebounds, contributing to New Mexico’s overall performance as they improved their season record to 15 wins and 4 losses, with a 7-1 standing in the Mountain West Conference. Meanwhile, Donovan Dent matched Joseph’s scoring output with another 16 points while also dishing out seven assists. Tru Washington efficiently shot 5 of 8 from the field, adding 13 points to the Lobos’ total.
For Boise State, Tyson Degenhart was the standout performer, scoring 14 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and recording two steals. Javan Buchanan matched Degenhart’s scoring with 14 points and also contributed two steals for the Broncos. Julian Bowie added his efforts with nine points and four assists, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide in favor of Boise State.
New Mexico seized control of the game early, taking the lead just 48 seconds into the first half and maintaining it throughout. Dent was particularly effective during the opening half, scoring 14 points and helping New Mexico build a commanding 48-21 advantage by halftime. Although Boise State outperformed New Mexico in the second half, outscoring them by eight points, they struggled to recover from the large deficit. Mustapha Amzil led the Broncos in the second half with six points, but it did little to change the outcome.
Looking ahead, New Mexico will face Fresno State in their next home game on Monday, while Boise State is set to visit Colorado State on Wednesday.
