Two Arrested by Greek Police for Suspected Airport Baggage Theft

ATHENS, Greece — On Thursday, law enforcement officials in Greece announced the arrest of two women suspected of pilfering luggage from the baggage claim area at Athens International Airport.

According to the information provided by the airport police, the women were apprehended on Tuesday evening and are believed to have stolen a minimum of eight suitcases since November. The authorities reported that these thefts occurred after the women arrived on domestic flights.

A subsequent search of their residence in Athens uncovered a stash of stolen suitcases filled with various items, including clothing, shoes, wallets, hats, purses, and eyeglasses. Additionally, they found small amounts of money in different currencies, such as Angolan kwanza, Bulgarian lev, Polish zlotys, South African rand, Russian rubles, and Swedish krona.

In compliance with Greek law, the identities of the two women have not been disclosed. They are expected to face a prosecutor during a preliminary court session shortly.
