NEW YORK — In an exhilarating matchup that went into triple overtime, Rahsool Diggins shattered the program record by scoring an astounding 46 points, leading UMass to a thrilling 120-118 victory over Fordham on Wednesday night.

Diggins’ performance also placed him among the top single-game scorers in Atlantic 10 Conference history, tying for the eighth-highest total ever recorded. Notably, this achievement marked the highest points scored by an opposing player at Rose Hill Gymnasium, surpassing the legendary Julius Erving’s record-setting 37 points back on January 21, 1970.

In addition to Diggins, Daniel Rivera played a pivotal role in the win, matching his career-best with 29 points, and contributing significantly with 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Minutemen, who improved to a record of 7-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Worthy also made his presence felt, finishing the game with 13 points. The total of 120 points scored by UMass ties for the highest ever achieved in the school’s history.

The end of regulation saw a dramatic turn of events when Marqui Worthy drained a three-pointer with just seven seconds remaining to tie the game at 79-79, sending it into the first overtime. In that overtime frame, Diggins scored a free throw, putting UMass ahead 98-95 with only a second left, but Fordham’s Romad Dean was fouled on his long-range shot and converted all three free throws, forcing a second overtime.

During the second overtime, Akil Watson made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left, which tied the game at 108, leading to a riveting third overtime.

Fordham (8-10, 0-5) had strong contributions from Jackie Johnson III, who led the Rams with 36 points along with seven rebounds. Japhet Medor also starred for Fordham, adding 25 points, five assists, and two steals, while Josh Rivera chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds.
