LOS ANGELES – The highly anticipated matchup between top-ranked UCLA and Penn State is now relocated to Long Beach State’s facilities due to ongoing concerns regarding the hazardous wildfires in the region.
The women’s basketball game is scheduled to take place at the Walter Pyramid, situated approximately 35 miles away from UCLA’s home campus in Westwood, which lies in proximity to the Palisades fire that continues to pose a threat.
In light of safety measures, UCLA has suspended in-person classes until January 17. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions recently faced off against No. 4 USC on Sunday at the Galen Center located in downtown Los Angeles.
Northwestern, which was originally scheduled to compete against the Los Angeles schools on both Sunday and Wednesday, opted not to travel due to wildfires’ dangers, notwithstanding UCLA’s proposal to hold the game at an alternative off-campus venue.
