A fire in a restaurant located in northern Czech Republic has resulted in the tragic deaths of six individuals and left another six suffering from severe injuries, according to officials on Sunday.
The incident occurred at the U Kojota restaurant in the city of Most, which is approximately 100 kilometers (63 miles) north of the capital, Prague. Reports indicate that the restaurant was still operational at the time the blaze ignited just before midnight on Saturday.
Firefighters and police officials suspect that a gas heater, which may have been knocked over, is the probable cause of the fire.
Over 60 firefighters were deployed to tackle the flames, and they worked diligently until 1 a.m. to bring the fire under control. Those injured in the incident were transported to medical facilities in Most and surrounding areas for treatment. An investigation has been launched to determine further details surrounding the tragedy.
Interior Minister Vit Rakusan visited the site on Sunday morning, confirming that around 30 patrons were evacuated from both the restaurant and an adjacent residential building.
The Mayor of Most, Marek Hrvol, remarked that this incident marks one of the most devastating tragedies in the city’s recent history.
