One dead, one harmed in shooting at Honduran consulate close to Atlanta

DORAVILLE, Ga. — A shooting incident at the Honduran consulate located just outside Atlanta on Monday resulted in one fatality and left another person injured. According to law enforcement, a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

Authorities reported that the deceased was a Mexican national working as a security guard at the consulate. This information was confirmed by the Mexican Foreign Affairs secretary through a statement shared on the social platform X.

Doraville police responded to emergency calls about gunfire around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a nearby hospital for medical care, as noted by city spokesperson Emily Heenan.

The suspect was taken into custody at the site of the shooting and was subsequently brought to the Doraville police station for interrogation. Heenan did not disclose any details regarding the motive behind the shooting at this time.

The incident occurred directly in front of the consulate’s main entrance. In the aftermath, officers have been stationed at the site to conduct witness interviews and collect evidence pertinent to the case.

Heenan also mentioned that more information regarding the identities of the victims and the suspected shooter could not be released yet, as police needed to reach out to family members involved.

In the wake of this tragic event, the Mexican government has extended an offer of assistance to both local law enforcement and the family of the deceased individual, along with a call for a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter.
