NEW YORK — Matt Zona contributed significantly from the bench with 15 points, helping Fordham secure an 87-83 triumph over Albany (NY) on Saturday.
Zona showcased his shooting skills, making 5 of 7 attempts, which included hitting 3 of 4 from three-point range for the Rams, who improved to an 8-5 record. Jahmere Tripp was another key player, scoring 14 points while going 5 for 7 from the field and perfect from the free-throw line, also grabbing six rebounds and making three steals. Jackie Johnson III added 13 points, despite shooting 4 for 14 overall and managing only 1 for 5 from deep.

For the Great Danes (7-7), Amar’e Marshall was a standout performer, tallying 24 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Justin Neely also provided a strong performance, finishing with 19 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, while Byron Joshua contributed 16 points and five assists to the team effort.

In the first half, Josh Rivera made an impact by scoring 11 points, helping Fordham take a 46-35 lead at halftime. The Rams took the decisive lead with 12:53 remaining in the second half when Zona sank a three-pointer, pushing the score to 57-54.

Looking ahead, Fordham’s next matchup is scheduled for Tuesday against Saint Louis at their home court, while Albany (NY) will host Stony Brook on Sunday.
