BALTIMORE — In a notable matchup on Saturday, Hampton University overcame Loyola (MD) with a 76-68 victory, thanks in part to a standout performance from Wayne Bristol Jr., who tallied 21 points.
Bristol also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds for the Pirates, who now stand at 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Etienne Strothers also had a strong showing, scoring 14 points through a combination of 4 for 10 shooting, including 1 for 3 from beyond the arc, and hitting 5 of his 6 free-throw attempts. Additionally, Richard Goods added to the scoreboard with 13 points, delivering an efficient performance that saw him shoot 2 for 3 from the field and 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.
On the opposing side, the Greyhounds, now at 5-5 this season, were led by Milos Ilic, who put up 22 points and secured eight rebounds. Jordan Stiemke contributed 12 points to the team’s effort, while Jacob Theodosiou rounded out the scoring with nine points.
Hampton seized the lead midway through the first half, specifically with 7:30 remaining, and maintained it for the duration of the game. The Pirates headed into halftime with a score of 32-26, largely due to Goods, who had a solid first-half showing with nine points. In the second half, Hampton managed to outscore Loyola by a slight margin of two points, highlighted by another strong quarter from Bristol, who netted 13 points.
Both teams are scheduled to compete again this coming Saturday, with Hampton playing host to Howard, while Loyola will make a trip to face DePaul.
