JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Quimari Peterson’s impressive performance, scoring 19 points, played a key role in East Tennessee State’s commanding 84-58 victory over Elon on Wednesday night.
In addition to his scoring, Peterson also provided six assists for the Buccaneers, who improved their record to 7-5. Jaden Seymour made a notable contribution with 17 points, hitting 50% of his shots from the field (7 of 14) and converting 3 out of 4 free throws. Seymour also added six rebounds, five assists, and three blocks to his stat line. John Buggs III tallied 11 points, shooting 4 of 11 overall and sinking three of seven attempts from beyond the arc, while also contributing seven rebounds.
For the Phoenix, who fell to 7-4, TJ Simpkins was the standout player, pouring in 27 points. He was supported by Nick Dorn, who chipped in 11 points for Elon.
East Tennessee State claimed the lead early, with 19:18 left in the first half, and they maintained that advantage throughout the game. Peterson was instrumental in this effort, scoring 11 points in the first half alone, helping the Buccaneers build a strong 44-26 lead by halftime.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete on Saturday; East Tennessee State will travel to face UMKC, while Elon will host UNC Greensboro.
