MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim expressed the importance of players like Marcus Rashford for the team after the forward stated he is open to a new challenge.
Rashford was excluded from the squad during United’s recent 2-1 victory over Manchester City, which has sparked considerable speculation regarding his future with the club. In an interview, he mentioned his willingness to explore new opportunities. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford reportedly said, adding that there would be “no hard feelings” when he decides to leave.
Amorim addressed inquiries about Rashford’s potential exit with caution but emphasized the value of retaining talented players. “Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he’s a big talent,” Amorim remarked during a press conference. He noted that improving Rashford’s performance is his primary focus and he hopes to support the player in finding his best form.
The 27-year-old forward is contracted with Manchester United until 2028 and is a product of the club’s prestigious academy, which has nurtured legendary figures like Bobby Charlton, George Best, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham. However, his performance has waned since signing his new contract in 2023, as he netted only eight goals last season and has faced difficulties maintaining a spot in the England national team.
Since Amorim’s appointment in November, Rashford has scored three goals in six matches. Nonetheless, he experienced a setback recently, being substituted after 56 minutes in his last game against Viktoria Plzen and subsequently omitted from the squad for the match against Manchester City.
