Bulgarian customs officials made a significant drug bust on Sunday, uncovering approximately 190 kilograms (420 pounds) of cocaine concealed within a cargo ship at the Black Sea port of Burgas.

The vessel, which originated from Peru, was crewed by 11 individuals and transported copper concentrate destined for processing at a local facility, as reported by the state-run news agency BTA.

Authorities estimated the street value of the seized cocaine to be around $7 million. Investigators discovered that the drugs were cleverly hidden in different sections of the ship’s pipelines.

An inquiry has been initiated to identify the individuals who were supposed to receive this shipment of cocaine. Those found guilty of drug trafficking in Bulgaria could be sentenced to as much as 20 years in prison.

Bulgaria has stepped up its efforts to combat drug trafficking, establishing itself as a key transit point for cocaine from Latin America en route to Western European markets.
