KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are set to welcome back kicker Harrison Butker after he missed four games due to knee surgery. However, the team will be missing left tackle D.J. Humphries, who will sit out due to a hamstring injury when they take on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
Butker has been activated from injured reserve, leading to the release of fellow kicker Matthew Wright on Saturday. Wright served as a temporary replacement for Butker, stepping in after Spencer Shrader was placed on IR with a hamstring issue. Throughout his two games, Wright successfully converted 8 out of 9 field goals and made both of his extra points, culminating in a crucial 31-yard field goal victory against the Chargers last week.
Prior to his surgery on his left, non-kicking knee, Butker had an impressive performance, completing 90% of his field goals and missing just one extra point on 22 attempts. As for Humphries, he was initially listed as doubtful in the injury report, but after being downgraded to out on Saturday, the Chiefs will most likely turn to Wanya Morris or Kingsley Suamataia to help protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes on his blind side.
Additionally, the Chiefs have promoted linebacker Swayze Bozeman and tight end Anthony Firkser from their practice squad for the upcoming game. The team’s preparations continue as they ready themselves for the matchup against the Browns, aiming to secure a victory despite these key player adjustments.
