RAINBOW CITY, Ala. — A shooting incident involving law enforcement resulted in the death of a man who had allegedly fired on officers during a domestic dispute in eastern Alabama, as reported by local authorities.

According to a statement released by the Rainbow City police, the tragic event occurred on Wednesday when officers were called in to address a domestic situation that escalated into what was described as a “hostage situation.” The police indicated that the individual involved discharged a firearm at the responding officers, prompting them to return fire, ultimately leading to the man’s death.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has taken over the investigation at the request of the police department, and they plan to provide their findings to the district attorney’s office in Etowah County for further review.

On Thursday, ALEA officials identified the deceased man as Jamin David Elkins, 46, hailing from Mount Dora, Florida, located approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Orlando.

Rainbow City is situated around 93 miles (153 kilometers) west of Atlanta, highlighting its location within the broader region where this incident took place.
