A small aircraft encountered a tragic accident on an interstate highway in New York, leading to the death of one individual on board and injuries to another, as reported by officials.
The incident occurred on Interstate 684 in Harrison, located approximately 25 miles northeast of Manhattan, around 7 p.m. on Thursday. Following the crash, traffic on the highway was brought to a standstill.
Footage captured from the scene depicted the damaged white aircraft positioned against a guardrail situated in the center median, with emergency responders present, effectively blocking all lanes of traffic.
To address the situation, the Department of Environmental Conservation was deployed to manage and clean up the aviation fuel that had leaked from the wreckage, as confirmed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
In a statement, Hochul expressed her condolences, stating, “My heart goes out to the loved ones of those on board during this tragic incident, and I am praying for a safe recovery for the injured individual.”
