LONDON — Michail Antonio, the forward for West Ham United, was hospitalized following a road traffic accident on Saturday.
The 34-year-old athlete is reported to be in stable condition.
“Michail is alert and is able to communicate; he is currently receiving close observation at a hospital in central London,” stated the Premier League team.
“During this challenging time, we respectfully ask that everyone honor the privacy of Michail and his family.
The club will refrain from making additional comments for the time being but will provide further updates as necessary.”
Images circulating on social media depicted a severely damaged Ferrari in the Essex region, although it remains unclear if this was the vehicle involved in the incident.
Antonio joined West Ham in 2015 and has played over 300 matches for the club.
The team does not have any league fixtures scheduled until Monday.
