JONESBORO, Ark. — Butch Jones, the head coach of Arkansas State University, has secured a contract extension that will keep him with the Red Wolves until 2029, as confirmed by the school. This comes after a successful season, marking the team’s first winning record in five years.
During Jones’ tenure, which spans four seasons, the Red Wolves have consistently improved their performance. With a current record of 7-5, the team is poised to make back-to-back appearances in bowl games, a significant achievement for the program.
Jeff Purinton, the athletic director, praised Jones for his dedication and efforts in fostering a winning culture within the football program. He noted that the positive trends in the team’s development are indicative of Jones’ hard work and commitment.
This season, the Red Wolves also notched five victories within the Sun Belt Conference, their highest total since 2019, and have claimed a tie for second place in the West Division for the second consecutive year.
Previous to this extension, Jones’ contract was set to end on December 31, 2026. Before coaching at Arkansas State, he held positions at notable programs including Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Central Michigan, lending depth to his experience in collegiate football.
