Celtics’ Jaylen Brown penalized $25K by NBA for throat-slash motion in Detroit game

NEW YORK — Jaylen Brown, a forward for the Boston Celtics, has received a $25,000 fine from the NBA due to a throat-slashing gesture he made after completing a dunk during a game against the Detroit Pistons this past Wednesday night.

NBA’s head of basketball operations, Joe Dumars, publicly announced the penalty on Friday, citing the gesture as “inappropriate.”

The incident took place just before the first quarter came to a close when Brown executed a powerful two-handed dunk over Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart. Following the dunk, he directed a prolonged stare towards Stewart, which was punctuated by a hand gesture at his throat.

In a post-game interview following the Celtics’ 130-120 win against the Pistons, Brown acknowledged that he anticipated some form of disciplinary action from the NBA regarding his conduct.
