STANFORD, Calif. — Owen Koonce delivered an impressive performance, scoring 30 points, while Isaac Jessup contributed significantly with 21 points, 18 of which came in the second half. Cal Poly mounted a strong late-game effort to defeat Stanford 97-90 on Saturday evening.

Jessup played a critical role in the comeback, hitting consecutive three-pointers during a 10-2 run that gave Cal Poly its first lead since the game’s early moments, pushing the score to 79-78 with just under five minutes on the clock. Stanford quickly reclaimed the lead on their next possession, only for Maxime Raynaud to tie the game at 84 with a layup with 1:50 remaining.

Cal Poly did not falter, as Jarred Hyder responded with a crucial three-pointer, helping the Mustangs to a 7-0 run that allowed them to establish a comfortable lead.

In the second half, Cal Poly showcased an impressive shooting display, connecting on 20 of their 28 attempts (71%) from the field, including 8 of 14 from beyond the arc. Koonce was highly efficient, going 12 for 16, while Jessup had a solid shooting night as well, hitting 7 of 11 shots. Together, they accounted for eight of the Mustangs’ twelve three-pointers. In addition, Mac Riniker scored 12 points, while Peter Bandelj and Jarred Hyder chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Raynaud led Stanford with 21 points, and teammates Jaylen Blakes and Benny Gealer each contributed 17 points. Despite the loss, Raynaud had a notable first half, scoring 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including two three-pointers that helped the Cardinal secure a halftime lead of 43-34.

Koonce’s explosive first half performance, in which he scored 16 points, helped to keep Cal Poly within striking distance. Stanford managed its largest lead of the night at 46-34 following the first basket of the second half. The victory for Cal Poly also marked a significant milestone, as it ended an eight-game losing streak against Stanford, attaining only their second win in the series since their first encounter on November 27, 1977.
