UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A woman has been formally charged in connection with a tragic car accident that occurred on July 6, leading to the deaths of Khyree Jackson, a rookie cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, along with two of his former high school friends.
Cori Clingman faces a total of 13 charges, which include vehicular manslaughter connected to driving while intoxicated, as reported by authorities in Prince George’s County, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
If found guilty, Clingman could potentially face up to 30 years behind bars, according to State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. She expressed that this indictment is just the beginning of a long pursuit for justice on behalf of the three young men, their families, Wise High School, the NFL community, and the entire locality.
At this time, it is unclear whether Clingman has retained legal representation. Braveboy confirmed that Clingman was taken into custody without any issues and is scheduled for a bond review on Friday.
Khyree Jackson was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in April. He previously spent two years at Alabama before concluding his college football experience with a season at Oregon.
The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of Jackson, who was 24, and Isaiah Hazel, who died at the scene of the collision. Another passenger, Anthony Lytton Jr., aged 24, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Hazel was 23 years old at the time of the crash.
According to police reports, the three were traveling together just after 3 a.m. when their vehicle was struck by another car that was speeding and weaving in and out of lanes. Braveboy indicated that there was physical contact between Clingman’s vehicle and that of the victims.
Hazel was at the wheel while Jackson and Lytton were seated in the back. Their car lost control after being hit and subsequently collided with several tree stumps. Neither of the occupants in the other two vehicles involved in the accident sustained injuries.
Both Hazel and Lytton had impressive college football backgrounds; Hazel played at the University of Maryland and Charlotte, while Lytton played for Florida State and Penn State. The trio had also achieved a state championship during their time at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland.
