Mark Zuckerberg Announces the End of Fact-Checking at Meta While Sporting One of the World’s Rarest Watches

Another reason why Mark Zuckerberg is not the most likable person. Announcing that Fact-checking will be stopped, which means Moderation Teams all over the world (remember in all languages) will be laid off. And he is flaunting an almost $1 Mio watch.

In a video announcement, Mark Zuckerberg declared the end of fact-checking on Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram. During the announcement, the Meta CEO, now 40, wore the Hand Made 1 wristwatch from the prestigious watchmaker Greubel Forsey. The price tag? A “mere” $900,000 (approximately €873,000).

The Hand Made 1

The Hand Made 1 is revered by watch connoisseurs as “wearable art.” Crafting one of these masterpieces requires a staggering 6,000 hours of meticulous handwork. As noted on Greubel Forsey’s website, only two to three units are produced annually due to this intensive process.

To make the Hand Made 1 even more exclusive, Greubel Forsey revealed that in 2025, there will “most likely” be only a single piece created. A company spokesperson told the U.S. business magazine Fortune that this limitation is due to the “incredibly time-intensive process” required to manufacture the watch.

A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

“It is a joy to see someone who has played such a pivotal role in shaping the modern digital landscape and lifestyle exhibit a true appreciation for the most traditional approach to fine watchmaking,” Michel Nydegger, CEO of Greubel Forsey, told Fortune.

Zuckerberg’s Wealth and His Priceless Timepiece

For Zuckerberg, the nearly $1 million price tag for the Hand Made 1 likely didn’t make much of a dent. With an estimated fortune of around €210 billion, he has recently climbed to third place on the list of the world’s richest individuals.

The watch is not just a statement piece but a symbol of the intersection between timeless tradition and modern innovation—much like Zuckerberg himself.
