A tragic incident in New Orleans claimed multiple lives and left many injured when a driver in a white pickup truck crashed through a festive crowd on Bourbon Street. The stepson of a former Royal Family nanny, Edward Pettifer from London, was among the victims identified. Prince William expressed his deep sorrow regarding the loss of Pettifer.

Among the victims was Tasha Polk, a nursing assistant in her 40s, who was the last of the 14 casualties confirmed by her family on Saturday. The coroner reported that all victims suffered blunt force trauma from the incident. The driver of the truck, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was killed in a confrontation with police officers.

Victims’ ages ranged from 18 to 63 years, with most in their twenties, representing a diverse group from states including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, and even Great Britain. In remembrance of those lost, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced a period of mourning starting on January 6, during which a different victim will be honored each day. He emphasized that the state will not crumble in fear, but instead will persevere in memory of the victims.

As of the last reports, around 30 individuals sustained injuries, with 16 remaining hospitalized. The family of Tasha Polk, having gathered for a vigil, shared their heartbreak over her loss, praying for healing in their community. Polk’s cousin painted a picture of a loving relationship, affirming that they were like siblings and mourning the vibrant life taken far too soon.
