NEW YORK — The popular animated series “Bluey” is set to make its cinematic debut.
Disney and BBC Studios revealed on Tuesday that a feature film inspired by the beloved Australian show is scheduled for release in theaters in 2027. The movie will be penned and directed by the show’s original creator, Joe Brumm, and will feature the familiar voices of regular cast members, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack.
The companies stated that the CGI animated film will “follow the ongoing adventures of Bluey,” an energetic blue heeler puppy living with her mother, father, and younger sister, Bingo.
In a statement, Brumm expressed his belief that “Bluey” warranted a full-length theatrical film from the beginning. He emphasized his goal for the movie to be a memorable occasion for families to share together.
Since its launch in 2018, the Australian series has exploded in popularity, becoming a global sensation and ranking as the most-watched show on Disney+ worldwide in 2024.
Co-chairs of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, commented on the series’ success, stating that “Bluey” has connected families around the world through its touching narratives of imagination, play, and bonding since its launch on Disney Jr. and Disney+.
