LONDON — Queen Camilla will not participate in her third public event over the span of just two weeks as she continues to recover from a chest infection, according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Friday.
The 77-year-old Queen was scheduled to be present at the annual Royal Variety Performance alongside her husband, King Charles III. However, medical advice indicated that she should avoid any overexertion at this time. The palace noted, “Following a recent chest infection, the Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms. Given the busy week of engagements, Her Majesty’s doctors have advised that she prioritize getting adequate rest.” Therefore, she has sadly decided to step back from attending the Royal Variety Performance this evening while King Charles will still participate as planned.
After recently withdrawing from two important events honoring the nation’s war dead earlier this month, Camilla has been tentatively re-engaging with her royal responsibilities. Her absence from these events is particularly notable as the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph in London is a significant occasion for the royal family.
In her stead, King Charles and his daughter-in-law, Kate, the Princess of Wales, took part in the remembrance ceremony after both had undergone cancer treatments earlier this year. The Queen’s health continues to be a concern as she navigates her recovery process while balancing her royal duties.
