NEW YORK — A new account detailing the history of the USS Intrepid is set to be co-authored by Montel Williams, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who has garnered fame as a daytime television personality.

Entitled “The Sailing of the Intrepid,” the book is slated for release on May 6, as announced by Hanover Square Press. Co-written with David Fisher, it will recount the voyages of the Intrepid during its early combat missions in World War II, highlighting a harrowing moment in 1944 when the ship endured an attack from a Japanese torpedo plane.

In his statement, Williams emphasized the book’s purpose as a homage to the remarkable courage and resourcefulness displayed by the crew of the Intrepid, who stood firm against overwhelming challenges. He remarked, “Their legacy embodies the essence of true heroism and resilience.”

At 68 years old, Williams has an extensive military background, having joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1974 before completing his officer training at the U.S. Naval Academy. He concluded his service in 1996 after an impressive two-decade-long career, earning accolades such as two Meritorious Service Medals and two Navy Commendation Medals. Currently, he is the host of “Military Makeover with Montel,” a program aired on Lifetime.

The upcoming book will be published under Hanover Square Press, a division of HarperCollins Publishing, further strengthening the partnership between literary and military history.
