This decision comes after Tagovailoa sustained his third concussion in two years during a game against the Buffalo Bills. The injury occurred in the third quarter when Tagovailoa collided with Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin while attempting to run for a first down. Instead of sliding, he initiated contact by lowering his shoulder into Hamlin.
Following the collision, players from both teams signaled that Tagovailoa was injured. He displayed symptoms associated with a traumatic brain injury while on the field. Although he eventually got up and walked to the sideline, the Dolphins opted to err on the side of caution by placing him on injured reserve for a minimum of four games.
Tagovailoa has a history of concussions, having been diagnosed with two in 2022 and one during his collegiate career at Alabama. To ensure his well-being, he has started consulting neurologists regarding his health. The team has yet to officially announce his placement on injured reserve, but this precautionary measure reflects their commitment to prioritizing player safety above all else.
