Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to hip discomfort, which may potentially bring his season to an early close. The decision came before the Rangers faced off against the New York Yankees in their series finale. Seager was absent from Tuesday night’s game after serving as the designated hitter in the series opener.
The Rangers’ general manager, Chris Young, expressed uncertainty regarding Seager’s season, as a complete diagnosis of his hip issue was pending. With 23 games left in the season, the reigning World Series champion Rangers find themselves 8 1/5 games behind for the last AL wild card spot. Seager had also sat out the series opener last Friday against Oakland while managing the hip problem.
In 123 games, Seager boasts a .278 batting average with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs. Signing a $325 million, 10-year contract with Texas as a free agent, he has achieved 30 homers for the third consecutive season. Following sports hernia surgery in January, Seager only participated in the final three spring training games. Initially slow with two homers and eight RBIs in his first 29 regular-season games, the 30-year-old has bounced back with a .296 average, along with 27 homers and 66 RBIs since May 3.
