Fatal Police Chase Spans Illinois and Indiana, Resulting in Officer Injured and Suspect Killed

In Sheldon, Illinois, an incident involving a man being killed and an Indiana sheriff’s officer being injured in a shootout at the conclusion of a chase was reported by authorities. The individual suspected in the case was fatally shot on Sunday night, approximately 100 miles south of Chicago. According to Illinois State Police, the Newton County, Indiana corporal was in critical condition at a hospital following the incident.

Reports suggest that officers from the Iroquois County sheriff’s department were in pursuit of a man who was believed to be armed and potentially holding a hostage. Cpl. Brandon Schreiber from Newton County, Indiana, became involved in the pursuit once it crossed into Indiana. The chase eventually looped back into Illinois and ended in Sheldon, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed. This led to an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as Andrew Roselius, 37, from Clifton, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was determined that there was no hostage in his vehicle. The details surrounding the incident are currently being investigated by the authorities involved.
