The Ohio State Buckeyes started their season opener with a 52-6 victory over Akron, with freshman Jeremiah Smith shining by catching two touchdown passes. Despite a slow start, Ohio State’s offense improved as the game progressed under new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. Smith redeemed himself after an initial dropped pass by making impressive catches in the end zone, helping the Buckeyes gain a solid lead of 17-3 at halftime.

In the second half, Smith’s 45-yard contested catch set up a touchdown run by Quinshon Judkins. Quarterback Will Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, completed 17 of 28 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Akron managed to score two field goals thanks to the efforts of Garrison Smith.

Despite being heavily favored to win by seven touchdowns, Ohio State faced challenges in the first half, particularly with the offensive line needing improvement. However, the team showed improvements in the second half, eventually dominating the game against Akron.

In the next games, Akron will play against Rutgers, while Ohio State is set to host Western Michigan next Saturday.
