Fifth body retrieved from sinking luxury yacht near Sicily; one woman remains unaccounted for

In Porticello, Sicily, rescue teams have discovered a fifth body from the wreck of a superyacht that sank off the coast. There is still one individual missing, and authorities are investigating the cause of the rapid sinking of the vessel. The body was brought ashore at Porticello port while divers continued their search for the sixth missing person, identified as a woman by the coast guard. Among the missing are British tech magnate Mike Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter, and colleagues who supported him in a recent U.S. federal fraud case.

Luca Cari, a spokesperson for the fire rescue service, mentioned the challenges of searching the wreckage, stating that it is a slow and complex process. He expressed uncertainty about when the next body might be located, emphasizing the difficulties faced by rescue teams in moving within the wreck. The 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, The Bayesian, sank in a storm on Monday while moored approximately a kilometer offshore. Civil protection authorities suspect the vessel was hit by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout, resulting in its rapid submersion.
