Acton, a Democrat, highlighted the insights she gained into the operations of the governor’s office while serving under Republican Governor Mike DeWine’s administration, particularly during the televised daily coronavirus briefings at the start of the pandemic in 2020. She stated, “I always am just really focused on how I can best be of service,” emphasizing her commitment to public welfare over political ambitions.
Acton’s tenure as the state health director propelled her into the limelight, both statewide and nationally. Her approach, blending professionalism with a comforting demeanor, won her acclaim for comforting residents grappling with fear during the pandemic.
