Michigan physician accused of photographing nude individuals

A doctor from Michigan, Dr. Oumair Aejaz, has been arrested for allegedly possessing numerous nude photos and videos of both children and adults. The images were reportedly taken while individuals were changing at a swim school, in hospital beds, and at other locations in the Detroit area. Dr. Aejaz, a 40-year-old internal medicine physician, was taken into custody on August 8 at his residence in Rochester Hills, north of Detroit. He faces charges including child sexually abusive activity, capturing images of unclothed individuals, and using a computer to commit crimes. His bond is set at $2 million, and he is currently being held at the Oakland County Jail.
The charges against Dr. Aejaz involve images taken of a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old, and two women at a children’s swim school in Oakland County. Authorities suspect that the victims were filmed from a nearby changing stall, as stated by County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. Investigations are ongoing, and there is a belief that there may be more victims yet to be identified. Authorities have seized multiple electronic devices, including computers, cellphones, and external storage devices. County Sheriff Michael Bouchard mentioned that one hard drive alone contained 13,000 videos, stressing that uncovering all the material could take up to six months.
Sheriff Bouchard drew parallels between this case and that of Larry Nassar, a former sports doctor who was convicted of sexually abusing girls and women. Bouchard emphasized that the scope of victimization in Dr. Aejaz’s case is extensive, involving individuals of all ages and genders. Aejaz, an Indian citizen working in the U.S. on a visa, worked as a contracted physician in various locations and had been in the country since around 2011. Bouchard indicated that the investigation may extend beyond Michigan to other states and even other countries, with the possibility that the crimes date back at least six years. The situation is deeply unsettling on several levels, with Bouchard describing the disturbing nature of the violations captured in the images obtained by authorities.
