Jets Rest Aaron Rodgers During Joint Practice with Commanders Due to Inclement Weather

0

The New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, opted to sit out the joint practice with the Washington Commanders due to inclement weather. Jets coach Robert Saleh made the decision to keep Rodgers out of practice as heavy rain hit the area at the beginning of the session. The 40-year-old Rodgers, who suffered a torn left Achilles tendon last season, has been in good health and actively participating in all previous practices and training camp this summer.

The Jets and Commanders held a joint practice ahead of their preseason opener at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. Saleh had already indicated that Rodgers would not be playing in the first or second preseason games, with a decision on his participation in the third game still pending. On the other side, Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the second overall pick in the April draft, is slated to start against the Jets.

This caution by the Jets in resting Rodgers due to inclement weather highlights the team’s priority of keeping their star quarterback healthy and ready for the upcoming season, despite his active participation in earlier training activities. It also gives opportunities for other players, like Jayden Daniels, to showcase their talents against NFL competition during joint practices and upcoming preseason games.
