Donald Trump said that his wife, Melania, thought his impression of President Joe Biden was a little too real during a speech on Saturday, the Daily Mail reports.

The former president has often mentioned that the First Lady has been his toughest critic when it comes to his raucous rallies. At a rally on the Jersey Shore, Trump explained that his impression of his election rival, President Joe Biden, as a doddering old man might have been too convincing for Melania.

He told the Wildwood crowd that he no longer performs his impression of Biden because Melania thought he was actually confused. “I called my wife, the great First Lady,” Trump said. “I asked, ‘First Lady, how great was that speech?’ She said, ‘You were OK.’ I asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ She replied, ‘Well, you couldn’t find your way off stage!'”

Trump explained that he was imitating Biden, but Melania thought it was genuine. “I have to be careful!” he said. He then accused the “fake news” of claiming he himself was lost on stage, so he now performs a “modified version” of his Biden impression.

The former First Lady has been absent from Trump’s side as he deals with multiple legal battles and campaigns for a second term. However, one guest described her as being in “good spirits” and close to Trump throughout a recent event. Pictures and videos on social media show her dressed in a fashionable black pantsuit, smiling broadly.

While Melania’s public appearances have been rare, she remains popular among Trump supporters, who cheer whenever Trump mentions her during rallies. She has not spoken publicly about the January 6th insurrection, during which she was in the White House, or about Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Although it is unlikely for Melania to appear by Trump’s side in court—reports suggest she views his legal issues as his own problem—she would return as First Lady if Trump wins a second term. Trump held a large rally in Wildwood on Saturday, where he talked about eating hot dogs and mocked former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The campaign claimed that 80,000 supporters attended the oceanfront event.

Trump announced that he plans to compete in traditionally Democratic states like New Jersey, Minnesota, and Virginia. “I don’t know, it could be all of them,” he predicted about the states he might win in the November election. “This guy is so damn bad, it could be all of them.” The rally featured references to the Jersey Shore and was held in front of a large Ferris wheel and amusement park rides.
