Woman injured in Arkansas grocery store shooting files lawsuit against man accused in the attack

In Little Rock, Arkansas, the suspect accused of a mass shooting at an Arkansas grocery store where four people were killed has been faced with a lawsuit by one of the women injured in the attack. The lawsuit, filed recently in state court, marks the first legal action against Travis Eugene Posey. Posey faces four counts of capital murder and 11 counts of attempted capital murder for the June 21 shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently held without bond in connection with the shooting.

Brittney Sullivent, who sustained injuries during the attack, along with her husband Jeromy, have initiated the lawsuit seeking monetary compensation. The damages are meant to cover medical expenses, lost earnings, and other costs resulting from the shooting. Posey, having declared indigency, is being represented by public defenders in his criminal case. However, the Arkansas Public Defender Commission stated that they could not represent him in the civil lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Sullivent was shot in the head and arm by Posey in the grocery store’s parking lot. The injuries she suffered include hearing loss and permanent disfigurement, requiring ongoing medical procedures. Motives behind Posey’s actions remain undisclosed, with his next court appearance scheduled for October.

Authorities reported that Posey was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and a bandolier containing numerous extra shotgun rounds. He primarily used the shotgun to fire at individuals in the store’s parking lot before proceeding into the store and shooting aimlessly at customers and employees. Numerous gunshot victims were found both inside the store and in the parking lot as a result of the incident.
