Washington Commanders first-year quarterback Jayden Daniels is sidelined from practice due to a rib injury.

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is sidelined from practice on Wednesday due to a rib injury, as reported by head coach Dan Quinn.
Daniels has been categorized as week-to-week with an uncertain possibility of participating in the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Quinn mentioned that despite his injury, Daniels would still engage in meetings, with a more detailed update on his condition anticipated by Friday.

Should Daniels be unable to play, veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota is set to take the starting position. Mariota stepped in for Daniels earlier in the game against Carolina, contributing to a significant 40-7 victory that pushed the Commanders’ record to 5-2 for the season.

Daniels, who was the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and the Heisman Trophy winner, has had an impressive debut season, amassing 1,410 passing yards and rushing for 372 additional yards. He has been responsible for a total of 10 touchdowns, making him a frontrunner for the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award. This upcoming game against the Bears was anticipated to be a highlight matchup featuring the top two draft picks, adding to the excitement surrounding this matchup.
