Trump experiences a decrease in legal expenses as trials are delayed

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign finances may get a boost as a report reveals that his Save America political action committee spent about $827,000 in June on his legal expenses, marking the first time in two years that the monthly total dropped below $1 million. Since July 2022, the PAC has been allocating nearly $4 million each month for legal costs, mainly for defending Trump in various criminal and civil cases.

The decline in legal expenses comes after the conclusion of Trump’s hush-money trial in May, which ended in a conviction. Additionally, Trump has seen favorable outcomes in federal criminal cases that are not scheduled for trial soon, if at all, along with a pending case in Georgia. The funds previously used for legal battles can now potentially be redirected towards campaign activities, a crucial move as the campaign intensifies.

On the Democratic side, Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsed by former President Joe Biden after he withdrew from the race, has seen a surge in donations worth approximately $126 million as of Wednesday. This influx of donations highlights the competitive nature of the upcoming election, with every dollar playing a crucial role in campaign operations, according to experts.

Despite the reduction in legal expenses, Trump’s legal team still has significant tasks ahead, including ongoing battles in the New York case and challenges related to a Supreme Court ruling granting presidents broad immunity from prosecution. While Trump is likely to continue incurring legal fees, the costs are expected to decrease compared to when he was actively involved in trials, which are typically the most expensive phase for defendants.
