Taylor Fritz faces off against Jannik Sinner in the US Open men’s championship match

American tennis player Taylor Fritz is on the verge of achieving what no other American man has accomplished in 21 years: winning a Grand Slam singles title. In the upcoming U.S. Open final, Fritz will face off against Jannik Sinner, who is aiming for his second major championship of the season.

The highly anticipated final is set to take place on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, starting at 2 p.m. EDT, which is two hours earlier than usual. Sinner, the current world No. 1, has had a remarkable year on hard courts, boasting a record of 34-2 in 2024 and clinching four titles, including the Australian Open in January. The 23-year-old Italian enters the final with a 10-match winning streak, following his victory at the Cincinnati Open. It was recently revealed that Sinner was cleared of a doping case after twice testing positive for an anabolic steroid in March.

On the other side of the net, the 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz, a 26-year-old from California, secured his spot in the final by defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe in a grueling five-set match on Friday. Fritz’s advancement to the final makes him the first American man to compete for a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick’s Wimbledon final in 2009. Roddick’s triumph at the 2003 U.S. Open marks the last time an American man claimed a Grand Slam title.

The final showdown between Taylor Fritz and Jannik Sinner promises to be a thrilling match as both players vie for tennis glory.
