A small plane crashed near a Boca Raton airport Friday morning, killing at least three people and triggering a massive fireball that engulfed a vehicle on the ground. The Cessna 310R had been airborne for less than 20 minutes before the disaster.
Horrific Scene as Plane Misses Runway
The aircraft slammed into a car with such force that it pushed the vehicle onto nearby railroad tracks around 10 a.m. Local NBC affiliates reported two bodies visible in the wreckage, though officials haven’t confirmed the final death toll.
Witnesses described buildings shaking as the plane went down. “I’m certain lives were lost,” one X user posted alongside video showing multiple fires raging at the crash site. Thick black smoke billowed over the area as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Mechanical Failure Suspected
Early reports suggest the plane experienced mechanical issues before plunging toward the ground. The flight, which originated in Boca Raton, was headed to Tallahassee when tragedy struck.
Firefighters extinguished the flames, but the crash shut down roads and railroad tracks for hours. The pale-colored car struck by the aircraft was completely destroyed. It’s unclear whether anyone inside survived.
Crash Site Near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago
The accident occurred just 25 miles south of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Boca Raton’s airport has grown busier as Palm Beach International tightened security, diverting more air traffic to the smaller airfield.
Mayor Scott Singer confirmed the crash in a statement, saying details remain fluid as investigators work the scene. The FAA and NTSB will determine the official cause.
This marks yet another small plane crash in recent months, raising fresh concerns about aviation safety.
