Police in Paris are blocking access to the Seine River in preparation for the start of the Olympics opening ceremony

An extensive security perimeter for the 2024 Paris Olympics has been implemented in central Paris, dividing a significant area along the River Seine. The security zone, stretching for miles, required Parisians and tourists to have a QR code pass to gain entry beyond the barriers safeguarding the Olympic Games’ opening ceremony on July 26.
Individuals possessing the QR code, whether digitally on their phones or printed on paper, could smoothly navigate through police checkpoints strategically placed at openings in the tall metal barriers enclosing the secure zone.
Those lacking the necessary pass were largely denied access, with officers remaining firm and unaffected by any attempts to persuade them otherwise.
The security measures, put in place early on Thursday, are scheduled to remain in effect until the culmination of the opening ceremony. Notably, Paris opted to host the ceremony on the River Seine rather than the customary stadium setting, a unique choice compared to past host cities.
Post-ceremony, the majority of the heightened security provisions along the riverbanks are expected to be lifted. Police personnel were instructed to maintain a cordial and accommodating demeanor, especially towards individuals encountering the security perimeter for the first time.
