ANAHEIM, Calif. โ€” Andrew Benintendi contributed significantly with a double and a home run, while Lenyn Sosa also made his mark with a home run among his multiple hits, helping the Chicago White Sox secure a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Shane Smith, making his first start since July 11 after recovering from a 15-day stint on the injured list, pitched 4 1/3 innings for the White Sox. He allowed two runs and two hits and struck out four batters. Reliever Jordan Leasure (4-6) claimed the win, fanning four batters in 1 2/3 innings.

In an early offensive surger for the White Sox, both Benintendi and Sosa launched solo home runs in the second inning against Angels starter Tyler Anderson (2-7). Luis Robert Jr. further extended their lead with a sacrifice fly that brought Miguel Vargas home in the fourth inning, putting the White Sox up 3-0.

The Angels responded as Gustavo Campero hit his second home run of the year, a two-run shot deep into center field in the fifth inning, narrowing the deficit to one. However, Colson Montgomery restored the White Soxโ€™s two-run advantage with a powerful homer in the sixth inning.

Logan Oโ€™Hoppe managed to close the gap again for the Angels by scoring on Zach Netoโ€™s sacrifice fly. Despite Nolan Schanuelโ€™s efforts to drive in Travis Dโ€™Arnaud with a two-out single, Campero was tagged out at third before Dโ€™Arnaud could cross the plate, thus preventing the tying run.

Lenyn Sosa added to his impressive night with an RBI single in the eighth, and Josh Rojas capped off the scoring with a solo homer in the ninth.

Steven Wilson was called in to close the game, successfully securing the last six outs for his second save of the year.

A critical moment came when Camperoโ€™s misjudged baserunning blunder in the seventh inning cost the Angels a potential game-tying opportunity, ending their bases-loaded, one-out chance.

Highlighting his continued excellence post-All-Star break, Colson Montgomery recorded his 18th RBI, matching Philadelphiaโ€™s Kyle Schwarber for the highest tally in the league since the break.

Looking ahead, the White Sox will send RHP Aaron Civale (2-6, 4.38 ERA) to the mound to face off against Angels RHP Kyle Hendricks (6-7, 4.73).
