SHREWSBURY, Pa. โ A peculiar scene unfolded on a Pennsylvania highway Friday morning when a truck overturned, scattering a load of hot dogs across the busy interstate and briefly halting traffic in both directions.
Emergency crews were faced with a cleanup task that proved to be a bit quirky โ gathering up the scattered hot dogs to dispose of them.
According to Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman, โOnce those leave the truck and hit the road, thatโs all garbage, and itโs still quite warm.โ
The incident occurred when a tractor-trailer experienced a mechanical issue on Interstate 83, just a few miles north of the Maryland border, as the morning rush hour was ending. The malfunction resulted in the truck colliding with a passenger vehicle and scraping along a concrete barrier, which tore open the trailer and dispersed its contents.
Authorities reported that four individuals required medical attention following the crash, though the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
In an effort to clear the highway, a front-end loader was deployed to collect the hot dogs and deposit them into a dump truck. Despite the seriousness of the situation, there was an element of humor in the chaos, which was not lost on the firefighters.
Chief Dauberman shared a light-hearted moment, mentioning that his daughter sent him a picture of a hot dog-themed T-shirt. โI can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,โ he remarked. โI did not know that.โ
