WASHINGTON โ€” The Milwaukee Brewers have placed their dynamic outfielder, Jackson Chourio, on the 10-day injured list due to a more serious right hamstring strain than initially thought. The announcement was made on Friday following further evaluations.

Chourioโ€™s injury occurred on Tuesday while he was advancing to third base on a triple during the fifth inning. As a result, the move to the injured list is retroactive to Wednesday. The Brewersโ€™ manager, Pat Murphy, indicated that Chourio, at just 21, may face a longer recovery period than the 10 days stipulated on the injured list.

โ€œItโ€™s not going to be a short-term thing,โ€ Murphy mentioned ahead of their series opener against Washington. โ€œThe assessment was more serious than we had anticipated. As for the full extent of the injury, itโ€™s still uncertain. Weโ€™re focused on his rehabilitation process.โ€ In an effort to speed up the healing, Chourio will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection.

As of now, Chourio has been a valuable player for the Brewers, sporting a .276 batting average with 17 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 18 steals under his belt. The Brewers, holding the leagueโ€™s top record at 64 wins and 44 losses, are hopeful for his quick return. Taking Chourioโ€™s spot on the active roster is outfielder Brandon Lockridge, a recent acquisition from San Diego. In exchange for Lockridge, Milwaukee traded pitcher Nestor Cortes, infielder Jorge Quintana, and a cash sum.

Lockridge, who has had a challenging season with a .216 average and five RBIs over 47 games with the Padres, made his debut in the Brewersโ€™ lineup as the lead-off hitter against the Nationals on Friday.
