NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities have captured the last escapee from a federal immigration detention facility in New Jersey. Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, a Colombian national, was apprehended during a routine traffic stop in Silver Lake, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, according to a recent announcement by the FBI’s Los Angeles division. The news marks the conclusion of a pursuit that began in June.

Mogollon, age 25, alongside three other individuals, orchestrated a breakout from the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. The escape followed reports of unrest within the facility. The men managed to flee by breaching a wall and escaping through the parking lot. Various local charges had been filed against these individuals by authorities in New Jersey and New York City, according to information from U.S. Sen. Andy Kim and Homeland Security spokespeople.

The escapees executed their daring plan by tearing through an aluminum wall on the second floor, then cushioning their jump with mattresses they threw through an opening. To bypass the perimeter fence, they draped bedsheets over the attached barbed wire, as detailed by the FBI.

In addition to being charged with escaping a federal facility, Mogollon was previously held on local charges of petty larceny and residential burglary. As of this moment, details regarding his legal representation remain uncertain. An inquiry was sent to the Office of the Federal Defender in New Jersey to seek comments.

To aid in Mogollon’s capture, the FBI had previously posted a reward of $25,000 for any information leading to his arrest. This incentive highlighted the urgency and importance of locating him after the escape.
