PHOENIX — The San Francisco Giants halted their four-game losing skid by securing a 6-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, thanks to Patrick Bailey’s sacrifice fly in the 10th inning that sent Jung Ho Lee across the plate.
The game initially saw the Giants with a 5-3 lead going into the ninth inning. However, Arizona’s momentum surged when Geraldo Perdomo singled, setting the stage for Ketel Marte. Earlier announced as the National League All-Star starter at second base, Marte hammered his 18th home run of the season to right field off Camilo Doval, leveling the score.
Seizing control once more in the 10th inning, the Giants pulled ahead when Bailey’s fly ball to center field allowed Lee to score, following an infield single by Heliot Ramos that advanced Lee to third. Camilo Doval (4-2) returned to the mound in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win.
Starting the game off with a bang, Mike Yastrzemski connected with the second pitch, launching a fastball into the right field stands. Lee then delivered an RBI triple, driving in Wilmer Flores to establish an early 2-0 lead for San Francisco. The advantage grew to 3-0 in the fifth inning with Rafael Devers contributing an RBI single.
Arizona’s Alek Thomas led off with a homer, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Subsequently, Landen Roupp faced challenges as three successive batters reached base without any outs. Despite this, lefty Erik Miller deftly maneuvered out of the tight spot, only allowing a sacrifice fly from Josh Naylor, thus maintaining a 3-2 lead.
Diamondbacks’ starter Merrill Kelly completed six innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three for Arizona.
In a critical sequence during the seventh inning, two of Arizona’s batters reached base, but San Francisco’s reliever Randy Rodriguez rose to the occasion, striking out Tim Tawa and inducing a double play grounder from Josh Naylor to escape the threat.
A notable performance saw Geraldo Perdomo reaching base five times, contributing with three hits and two walks for the Diamondbacks.
This series concludes on Thursday night, with the Giants’ former Arizona LHP Robbie Ray (8-3, 2.75 ERA) taking the mound against the Diamondbacks’ RHP Brandon Pfaadt (8-5, 5.38 ERA).
